First Post

by Sam Buchmiller

Getting this first post published has been like an imaginary door that I've been reluctant to open for years. Starting a new blog is a bit scary as AI-generated content gets more prevalent. How do I differentiate myself from content that is so easily produced by machines?

Rather than trying to compete with the machines, I want to focus on regularly expressing what's on my mind. I've been inspired by other blog writers such as Jessitron, who publish frequently with a mix of short and long form posts. I appreciate how she writes her thoughts on any topic, regardless of how much there is to say. I have trouble writing lengthy essays, so keeping it short gives me an easier path to begin writing my own blog. There's no need to wait for some grand idea for an essay before sharing my thoughts.

I want to write about my personal thoughts and experiences in the software development industry. AI can't write my experiences that haven't yet been recorded anywhere. The best it could do is reference existing accounts from real people (or hallucinate events that never occurred). My content might not flow as well as AI-written content, but it will be my own. I want my writing to stand out from the abundant AI-slop.
